Luxury has arrived in Myanmar with the debut of Wyndham Grand Hotel, the brand’s second property in the country after boutique concept TRYP by Wyndham Yangon opened in 2017. Located in downtown Yangon, the 20-story structure is part of the new Kantharyar Centre, an integrated development home to offices, serviced apartments, and retail outlets.

Built to attract the modern traveler, the 291-room hotel is a mix of elegance and tradition, with stately facilities and local touches crafted by architecture and interior design house Hassell. From its resort-style lobby to green spaces dotting its nooks and crannies, the decor maintains its Burmese influence with paintings of Myanmar and authentic artifacts.

In the rooms, sleek minimalist designs intermingle with contemporary touches for an upscale look, while floor-to-ceiling windows offer views of the city, Kandawgyi Lake, and the famous Shwedagon Pagoda gleaming in the distance.

If you’re booking yourself a stay on the Executive Club floors, you can access the Executive Lounge for daily buffet breakfasts, cocktails at sunset, and other bespoke services. Meanwhile, on the top level, the Presidential Suite is kitted out with a dining room and bar, a lounge area, a sauna, and an eight-person jacuzzi.

When you’re not working up a sweat at the fitness centre or basking in sunny rays at the outdoor pool, you can get a little “me time” at the spa with traditional treatments like its signature four-hand massage, or head down to the interconnected mall for a shopping stroll. Alternatively, explore the city’s nearby attractions such as Kandawgyi Park, Yangoon Zoological Gardens, and Bogyoke Aung San Market.

For some quiet time at the hotel, stop by any of its two eateries, which include concepts like a Thai restaurant and all-day dining room Spoon, where international cuisine is served alongside traditional Burmese dishes. If you’re up for a round of cocktails, there’s the infinity pool bar and the fourth floor lobby lounge, a casual space that looks out on the surrounding city.

Room rates start from US$112 per night in the hotel’s Superior Room (includes breakfast), and opening promos offer 30 percent discounts for stays till June 30 if you book by the end of Jan.
