Myanmar shooters publish street photography book

Dozens of photographers from Myanmar gathered at a bar in Yangon on Sunday to launch a new book of gritty urban images.

The book, titled Featured Collectives, is a collection of prints that appeared on the website of the same name over the last year. The images are also on display at the Deitta Gallery until October 15 (from 10am to 5pm Tuesday through Sunday).

“As a person who is passionate about photography, I found out that works by photographers from our neighboring countries are great and they’re developed. I thought it would be great if we can publish our works together. So, I made the Featured Collectives website,” said photographer and programmer Chit Min Maung at the book launch, which was held at the Rough Cut bar in Sanchuang township.

Zarni Phyo, who is on the photo desk at the Myanmar Times and contributed to the project, called the book “historic” for street photography in Myanmar.

“Featured Collectives” has images from local photographers both inside and outside the country. It costs 15,000 kyats (about $13) and can be bought at local bookstores and the Deitta Gallery.
