Myanmar fashionista holds ‘plus size’ beauty contest

In what may be the first event of its kind in Myanmar, the owner of a clothing store has held a beauty contest with “plus size” contestants.

The “Miss Plus Size Beauty Queen Contest Myanmar 2016” took place over the weekend at Yangon’s City FM compound. The billboard for the show said “I’m FAT, so what?”

There were 19 competitors, and the event coincided with the 1st anniversary of the founding of a Facebook group celebrating “200lb Beauties” in Myanmar.

It’s only the beginning and there are plans to make an annual contest.

“Everyone is beautiful by their own ways,” the organizer Khin Su Su San, who owns Chubby Only Fashion Shop, said in an interview.

She added that it was a non-profit event and “just for fun.”
