Mandalay gets its first water park

In some strange twist of irony, Mandalay has received a surplus of water in the form of the city’s newest (and only) water park, just as Yangon citizens have pulled ourselves through six days of water shortage.

The new Kandawgyi Water Park is meant to cater to both kids and adults who want a break from the hot weather. Available attractions include water slides, animal-themed rides such as ‘Horse World’ and ‘Tiger World’ (no, we don’t know what horses and tigers are doing in a water park), and a 5D digital cinema.

The park is open daily from 9am to 8pm and doesn’t have a general entrance fee; instead, visitors only have to pay fees for the attractions — of which there are 13 — that they want to visit.

At MMK3,000 per person, the park’s most expensive feature is a five-foot-deep pool, complete with artificial waves designed to make park goers feel as though they’re lounging at Ngwe Saung or Ngapali.

Here’s hoping that the Kandawgyi Water Park fares better than the ‘Yangon Waterboom’ park that also opened on March of last year, but had to close early on its first day due to complaints over dirty water and stray dogs.
