Last year was a good one for celebrity sightings in Myanmar. We had Angelina Jolie, Forest Whitaker, Matt Dillon and, er, Sean Kingston.
But 2016 has already brought us a big one: Bono in Bagan. Or, at least, he was there yesterday.
The U2 singer posted a hazy picture on social media showing hot air balloons rising over the ancient temple site in the early hours of Tuesday.
The shot, posted on the band’s Facebook and Instagram accounts, was signed: “Hot and cold air – Bono.”
One Facebook user reported seeing him with his family in the local area.
“Bono, I saw you last evening with your family, out of respect for your privacy I didn’t say hello, welcome to Bagan,” wrote Graham Luckett, a balloon pilot.
So what brings Bono to Myanmar? Is he planning to meet idol Aung San Suu Kyi – to whom he dedicated a song and even flew in his private jet – again?
Perhaps he’s looking to record a new video message from her to play on tour, as U2 has done in the past.
It’s anyone’s guess. Unless it’s another charity single, let’s just hope he finds what he’s looking for.
