Event: Artist Htein Lin returns to Goethe Villa with new exhibit

Last year, the former political prisoner and artist Htein Lin amazed audiences at the Goethe Villa in Yangon with “A Show of Hands,” his epic project to make plaster casts out of the arms and hands of others who, like him, had spent time behind bars.

That project is ongoing, but now he’s back with a new exhibit, “Picking up the Pieces,” which opens at the villa on Thursday at 7pm and runs through August 29.

According to the Goethe Institut, which is closing for renovations in October, the exhibit will “shed light on a critical view of the rapid changes affecting all areas and stages of life in today’s Myanmar.”

“Htein Lin considers it a privilege and a duty of the artist to ‘pick up the pieces’, to put them in a new order and to present them to his contemporaries, who far too willingly forget the past.”

It will include four large-scale installations.

Interested in going? The villa is located on Kabar Aye Pagoda Road next to he Golden Butterfly Hotel.
