5 things to do in Yangon this weekend: November 27

Acoustic sessions at Press Office Café (Saturday)

The Press Office Café in Yaw Min Gyi was already well on its way to hipster dreamville with its expert brews, baked goods and pop-up events. As of this weekend, the place is hosting live acoustic sessions too. Saturday’s lineup features three Yangon-based singer songwriters, one of whose voices is described as “a soothing wind carrying tiny daggers piercing through your soul.”

Press Office Café, #31 Bo Yar Nyunt Street. From 5pm.

FAB party at J-One (Saturday)

Yangon’s biggest LGBT (and friends) party, FAB, returns this weekend. With club hours back to normal post-election – according to FAB’s organizers – they’re promising a “long sweaty night on the dance floor”. Get there early to avoid the one-in-one-out drag. The cover charge is K5,000.

J-One Music Bar, Bo Cho Road, behind United Business Center on Kandawgyi. From 10pm.

Music doco at the British Club (Sunday)

This week’s screening at the British Club’s outdoor cinema is West Coast Seattle Boy: The Jimi Hendrix Anthology, following the life of the legendary singer.

British Embassy Club, between Alan Pya Pagoda Road and Gyo Phyu Road. From 7pm.

Yangon photo exhibit at Pansodan Scene (Saturday)

Photographer Catherine Griss captures three elements of Yangon life in the collection of images exhibited at Pansodan Scene this weekend. First: the evolution of Yangon – from its old colonial mansions to new malls. Second: the pagodas, and the people who frequent them. And lastly, the distinctive reading culture. From Saturday until December 6.

Pansodan Scene, corner of Pansodan and Mahabandoola Roads. 10am until 6pm.

Rajasthani feast at Indian Tadka

One of the city’s best-loved Indian restaurants is hosting a Rajasthan special this weekend, with a spread from the northern state. The set menu is K10,000 per person.

Indian Tadka, #51 Pyay Road. From 11am.
