Free food and booze at Union Bar and Grill (Friday)
Union is back. The British gastropub/bar re-opens tonight after major renovations. To celebrate, they’re serving free food and drink from their new menu from 7 to 9pm. Executive chef Reuben Gould and his team will be at the helm of two ceramic grills and a wood-fired pizza oven. Yum.

Bowie tribute night at J-One (Friday)
Celebrate fallen legends in style (er, J-One) with songs by David Bowie and Prince all night. There’s a prize for best costume – so get the hairspray and face paint ready. Despite the recent revival of the 11pm curfew, they’re promising to stay open until 1:30am.

There’s a new kid on the block in the ‘Burmese street food with a modern twist’ scene.
Vestige Café, serving everything from pone yay gyi rice with pork belly (K3,500) to Kachin ale, opens Saturday in Yangon’s newest and fanciest mall. Guests are invited to dress traditionally, in beige, maroon and black.

A capella concert at Novotel (Sunday)
Vocal group Mezzotono, one of Italy’s biggest a capella exports, starts an Asia-wide tour with a performance in the spacious Novotel Ballroom. Being a capella, singers perform different styles – from jazz to bossa nova – using only their voices. Best of all, admission is free.
