5 things to do in Yangon this weekend: August 19

Sculpture from found objects at The Yangon Gallery (Friday)

For years, local artist Nann Nann has picked up antique objects from around Myanmar, tweaking and transforming them into new art pieces. The sculptures will be on display through August 23. The opening party starts at 5pm on Friday night.

Pokemon party at The Clubhouse (Friday)

Depending on your attitude towards Pokemon Go, this could be the best, or worst, night of your life. High-end bar The Clubhouse is throwing a party themed around the virtual reality creatures. The club advertises itself as close to high-density Pokemon areas and gyms, so people can play and listen to Bounce Squad. Expect EDM, people on their phones and Pikachu costumes galore.

Literary open mic night at The Rough Cut (Saturday)

The Yangon Literary Magazine hosts an arts night at Sanchaung hangout the Rough Cut. Artists, musicians, writers, poets and performers of all kinds are invited to get on stage to share their work.

The Rough Cut, 19 Minn Street. From 5pm.

First birthday party at Manana (Sunday and Monday)

Mexican eatery Manana celebrates its first birthday with two for one drinks, all day, and discounts on dishes. Tacos are going for K1,500 each. Yes, please.

Lethwei World Championship at Thuwunna Stadium (Sunday)

You have to be pretty tough to be a Lethwei fighter. That is, Myanmar’s ferocious form of kickboxing. But who’s the toughest of them all? Champions face off at Thuwunna Stadium on Sunday night.
