5 things to do in Yangon this weekend: August 12

Naga hour at various bars and restaurants (Friday)

Drink for a very good cause this Friday at bars including Union, Gekko, Tin Tin Tin and Port Autonomy. They are holding a ‘Naga Hour’ to raise funds for the villages in the remote Naga Self-Administrative Zone where more than 40 people, mostly children, have died from a measles outbreak in recent weeks. Turn up between 7pm and 8pm, when all proceeds will be donated to the Council for Naga Affairs, which is organizing the transfer of aid to the area. See our story for full details.

Port Autonomy, Tin Tin Yangon, Parami Pizza, Gekko, Union. 7pm until 8pm.

Startup pitch contest at Strategy First Institute (Saturday)

Eight tech startups face off before an international panel to be crowned the most promising seed-stage project. The event is being held by the global Seedstars franchise, so the winner joins the “family” and gets a flight ticket to Switzerland to compete for the top prize, $1 million investment.
