In 1516, Germany’s Duke Wilhelm IV decreed that beer should be made up of a few simple ingredients: water, barley, hops, etc. To mark 500 years since that historic declaration, the Germans are celebrating. Yangon’s Mahlzeit restaurant is joining in this weekend, serving up Carlsberg and Tuborg on the house between 12pm and 6pm on Saturday. Cheers to that! (Or, should we say, prost!)

Mahlzeit is located at 84 Pann Hlaing Street, Yangon.

Yup, there’s definitely a theme to this weekend’s picks… It’s been two years since tapas bar The Lab opened at Shwegondaing Junction and, to celebrate, they’re offering free-flow sparkling from 6:30pm to 7:30pm.

The Lab is located at 70A Shwegondaing Road, Yangon.

Shakespeare screening at the British Club (Sunday)

To mark 400 years since William Shakespeare’s death, the British Club will screen 2015 family adventure-comedy Bill, from the people behind children’s TV series Horrible Histories. The plot centers on the playwright’s so-called ‘lost years,’ after he leaves his family home in search of fame. The free screening will take place in the club’s air-conditioned indoors, so we don’t all melt.

British Club, #46 Gyo Byu Road. 7pm.
