Fugitive student leader Kyaw Ko Ko has been arrested in Yangon after more than six months in hiding, say representatives of the organization he heads.
He was detained at around midday near San Pya market in Thingangyun Township, according to a Facebook post by the the All Burma Federation of Students Unions.
He had been on the run since a police crackdown on education reform protests in March.
Human rights groups have called for a release of all political prisoners ahead of historic November 8 elections.
More than 100 are currently behind bars following a ramp-up in arrests ahead of the polls.
