50th Street bar is a Yangon staple, but the food hasn’t changed much in a while.
That’s all over as the restaurant on Merchant and 50th streets has rolled out a new menu, which has some new goodies while tossing out some old favorites (what happened to the pesto pasta?).
There is a larger variety of Mexican-style food, which seems to be a trend now in Yangon, and a bunch of new sandwiches.
We tried the brisket sandwich in a tangy bbq sauce.
It was actually a little pricey, around $10, but as you can see from the pic it is heaping enough to be split between two people if necessary.
The serving of brisket was generous but wasn’t as tender as it could have been.
Snobs that we are, we paired this fine meal with a glass of Myanmar Premium, Myanmar beer’s new attempt at “craft” brew.
All told it was a heavy but satisfying indulgence, which definitely goes well with beer.
The menu is long so we’ll be back more with our random thoughts about different dishes in the near future.
For now, dream of brisket.
