Yangon speakeasy The Blind Tiger re-opens in downtown colonial building

Good news for cocktail-lovers: much-loved Yangon speakeasy The Blind Tiger is back.

The bar, which was up until last November located inside a condo building on Nawaday Street, re-opened on Friday night with a massive party at its new downtown location.

“We had to do everything in a short period of time, so it’s a bit rushed but finally we opened and everything was perfect,” bar manager Pannei Ye Win told Coconuts Yangon.

Guests reached the old Blind Tiger,  which opened in 2014, by knocking on a grand wooden door on the first floor of the condo. But complaints from neighbors forced the owners to find a new location late last year, Pannei Ye Win said.

“It was a bit difficult for us to continue business over there,” she said.

The new ground-floor premises, a colonial-era building on Seik Kan Thar Road, is marked out by a tiger’s paw in the window.

Inside, the décor channels the same Prohibition-era chic as the Nawaday location, but now with towering ceilings and exposed brickwork.

“We followed the old design but our area now is a bit smaller than the old place,” said Pannei Ye Win.

The swanky cocktail list and Asian fusion tapas menu are both unchanged, but plans are afoot to introduce lunch after Thingyan.

Blind Tiger is located at  #93/95 Ground Floor, Seik Kan Thar Road, Kyauktada Township, Yangon. Opening hours are 4pm until 11pm. Check them out on Facebook.
