Parami’s talents transcend pizza

Parami Pizza’s dominance in the Yangon pizza game has been beyond question for years; a review seems superfluous. But during a recent trip to the Sayar San Road branch, we focused our attention on the foods that are not part of the upscale chain’s name, and we determined that they’re worthy of their own praise.

The Sayar San location is unique among the three Parami restaurants for being the largest and most family-friendly. It’s home to Yangon’s largest indoor play area, which has its own staff to make sure children play safely while their parents enjoy a nice meal.

Our nice, child-free meal started with beef carpaccio, which comes drizzled with truffle oil and crowned with an assemblage of rocket and parmesan flakes. The beef was thin and tender, with a deep flavor that complemented the taste of truffle rather than just serving as a vehicle for it.

Next was the tagliatelle with Venetian duck ragu, which comes out looking big and rich but has a flavor that is unexpectedly light, so the duck maintains a natural flavor that is distinct from its saucy surroundings.

The pasta was followed by chicken Milanese with rocket and olive tapenade. The chicken was crispy on the outside yet moist and buttery on the inside. With a spritz of lemon, it hit all the spots.

Parami Pizza’s non-pizza items are fresh and tasty enough to make one forget what made the place a Yangon staple to begin with. So, to allay that possibility, here’s a reminder that the pizza super good, too. On this visit, we had the Parami pizza, which is topped with bell peppers, bacon, and a soft egg, and the Diavolo pizza, which is loaded with pepperoni, jalapeño, and mushrooms. Both were baked to crispy perfection and had the right amount mozzarella and tomato sauce.

This lovely Italian meal ended with a chocolate tartufo semifreddo, drizzled with raspberry coulis. Eating it was like biting into a creamy, fluffy, tangy chocolate cloud. No matter what you eat for your meal, make sure it ends with this.
