The Maldives may be welcoming its first integrated lifestyle development at Emboodhoo Lagoon to house eight new resorts (among other things) next year, but that isn’t stopping other hotels from getting a slice of the tourism pie elsewhere. Enter Mövenpick Hotels & Resorts, which just made its debut in the country with Mӧvenpick Resort Kuredhivaru Maldives on a private island in the Noonu Atoll.

Situated 45 minutes by sea plane from the capital of Malé or 15 minutes by speedboat from the new airport on Maafaru Island come early 2019, the brand offers 105 villas and suites, of which 72 are coveted overwater pool villas, 30 are beach pool suites, and three are beach spa pool residences that come with a private plunge pool.
According to the hotel, it’s also taking an environmentally-friendly stance, with built-in solar panels, in-house water production and plant desalination.

Four dining concepts reside on the property: Onu Marché Restaurant and Bar, which serves dishes made with locally-sourced produce; Mövenpick Coffee & Wine Lounge for drinks and ice cream; pool-side eatery Latitude 5.5, where you’ll get to dine with ocean views; and Bodumas Seafood Restaurant, offering fresh catches served over sunset. Guests who get peckish easily can also stop by the lobby for the hotel’s daily Mövenpick Chocolate Hour, to get samplings of complimentary chocolate.

Other facilities include a club with activities and babysitting services for young families, a diving center for snorkeling trips and house reef explorations, a tennis court and gym, a water sports center, and the Sun Spa by Esthederm for facials and massages.
