Much has been said about airlines and their state of cleanliness (especially tray tables, seatbelt buckles, and even aisle seats). If you’re a frequent flyer, you may or may not want to know all the dirty deets, but still, it’s handy to know which planes provide a tidier and more sterilized environment than others. Which is where the annual World Airline Awards by Skytrax comes in.
Winners of the aviation ranking platform’s 2018 survey of the world’s 30 cleanest aircraft cabins were recently revealed, and a significant chunk went to Asian companies, with ANA All Nippon Airways from Japan in the lead. Interestingly, no American-based airline made top 30, and the top position for North America went to Air Canada.
In second place is Taiwan’s EVA Air, followed by Asiana Airlines from South Korea, Singapore Airlines, Japan Airlines, Hong Kong’s Cathay Pacific Airlines, Qatar Airways, Swiss International Air Lines, China’s Hainan Airlines, and Lufthansa from Germany rounding out the top ten.
The rest of the list still gravitates towards Asian carriers, including Korean Air (#11), Cathay Dragon from Hong Kong (#12), China Airlines from Taiwan (#14), Thai Airways (#15), Garuda Indonesia (#16), China Southern Airlines (#17), and Bangkok Airways (#18).
The global poll, which tabulates passenger ratings for the standard and quality of air craft cabins, scores everything from seat areas and tables to carpets, cabin panels, and washrooms.
