A mall worker was injured falling through the ceiling of a shopping mall yesterday.

The unidentified 28-year-old man fell several levels before landing on the second floor of Chinatown Point. He was working in a restricted area and the only person injured, according to mall management.

The Singapore Civil Defence Force said it responded to a call at around 3:30pm and took the injured and conscious worker to Singapore General Hospital. His present condition was unknown.

Although the authorities and management did not comment on how the man fell, he might have been servicing a large video display as some images showed a gaping hole beneath an LED panel above the area where he fell.

Perennial (Singapore) Retail Management said security officers called for help immediately and closed off the area on the fourth floor. The mall said it was investigating.

Videos showed a man lying face down in a corridor and surrounded by onlookers. Emergency responders arrived and transferred him onto a stretcher before ushering him away.
