Netizens are really, really incensed by the utter discourtesy displayed by a blonde woman who was caught on dash cam not giving a damn about an elderly cyclist who fell down because of her actions.
Past midnight on Aug 30, a Comfort DelGro cabbie was seen stopping at a traffic light in front of Value Hotel along Balestier Road — itself a pretty dangerous place to let passengers alight. But the moment that sparked the incident was when one of the passengers opened her side of the door without looking out for oncoming traffic. Her carelessness caused a near accident when she bumped the car door against a cyclist that had been transporting what seems to be a lot of cardboard, causing the man to fall to the ground among passing traffic.
At that point in time, the right thing to do is to apologize and at least help the poor cyclist get his bicycle upright again. Alas, this did not come to pass. The woman simply walked away to leave the cyclist on his own, while a male passenger who alighted from the same taxi didn’t even bother to dispense some assistance. The footage is grainy, but it might even look like the woman simply laughed it off.
In fact, there were a total of three taxi passengers and four witnesses standing nearby on a pavement, and none of them had the decency to help the cyclist. In the end, the cabbie got out to lend a hand to the man, while the other seven people who could have done so earlier simply provided a massive dose of eye power.
If you think we got worked up by this, wait till you see some of the reactionary comments by netizens.
This one sums up the kerfuffle astutely.
