A Singapore TikToker broadcast her verbally abusing a nurse live after she felt that the service fell short.
More than 400 people tuned in to witness TikTok user Marydelusion insult the unidentified nurse she said was not giving her appropriate care amid the current shortage of health care workers.
“What do you mean by, ‘We never take care of you?’” the nurse said in the video that has been circulating online today.
It was not known which hospital the incident took place.
“Why you never give me the drip, the medicine you also don’t give me, then you no visitor no one then you want to threaten [to] say the fucking security coming, you think I scared ah?” the patient said.
The nurse can be heard denying threatening to call security at first, telling her to not “put words in people’s mouths,” before having enough and giving orders to call in the big guys.
The patient went on to insult the nurse while a man can be heard snickering in the background.
“Then you see later I whack your motherfucking face,” the user said. “I will confirm whack her one.”
Hospitals have been plagued by a lack of manpower since the pandemic hit. Thousands of healthcare workers resigned in the first half of last year, up from the 2,000 institutions usually sent off annually.
The government rewarded workers up to S$4,000 each in November to recognise their work, and institutions are trying to retain staff and attract new recruits by redesigning roles to make them more attractive.
Live comments called the patient “problematic” and told her to “cooperate” instead. Many sided with the nurse, pitying her for dealing with “abusive” patients.
“This is why Nurses resign. Hospital[s] should have the rights to deny care for abusive patients,” Chumsalmon98 wrote.
“Nurses and health care workers aren’t paid enough to deal with this shit. I’m sure everyone who has been hospitalised would have encountered a service breakdown, but being verbally abusive is NOT it,” Reallyhatedriving15 wrote.
Correction: An earlier version of this story misquoted the TikToker as saying she would whack the nurse’s “mother’s face.” In fact, she said her “motherfucking face.” We deeply regret the error.
