What a day in avian content. After the local mynah who inadvertently flew to London on an SIA flight, another bird was found in dire straits recently after its wing got snagged on a plastic bag that had an empty styrofoam food container.

Posting his surreal encounter on the Singapore subreddit last Saturday, /u/theschmuck uploaded a clip of a poor pigeon strutting about at an HDB void deck in Tampines, dragging the tied-up plastic bag with it. An attempt to help out the pigeon was thwarted (by thrashing around), and it flew into the evening sky with the takeaway box in tow. Said box had to be empty of course — the bird wouldn’t have been able to lift off if its cargo was filled with cai png.

Having here or takeaway? from r/singapore

/u/theschmuck explained how he came across the fowl-feathered friend. According to him, the pigeon turned out fine later on when the bag eventually fell off its wing.

Tickled by the strange encounter, fellow Redditors provided quips to accompany the video. Including obvious references to Bird Box.

As hilarious as it may be, it certainly brings up a sobering fact about our littering habits and how it affects the local wildlife. While this bird may have momentarily annoyed by it, plastic waste is an inescapable hazard for marine life today with 1.15 to 2.41 million tonnes of plastic entering the ocean every year. Meanwhile on land, plastic waste-infused elephant poop was found last month at Thailand’s Khao Yai, a national park known as the home of 300 wild elephants.
