Whoever is behind Resorts World Sentosa’s decision to get Norwegian filmmaker Mads K. Bækkevold to come up with videos to market their upcoming Halloween events deserves a raise.

In the lead up to the eighth edition of the Universal Studios’ Halloween Horror Nights, they’ve launched a series of short films to promote this year’s outing, which includes haunted houses revolving around Netflix series Stranger Things and Asian folklore, among other spooky stuff. Despite the hype for a haunted house involving the Netflix hit, the ones that we’re legit excited for are horrific things that hit closer to home, thanks to Bækkevold and his team at creative agency Made.for.Digital.

The latest clip — made for the Chinese-themed horror house “Pagoda of Peril” — might simply be one of the best things we’ve seen this year. It’s a brilliantly animated film that’s basically an acid trip down to hell, utilizing multiple art styles, a thumping soundtrack, and a well-crafted narrative to depict an endless cycle of nightmares.

If you like that, watch the other Halloween Horror Nights shorts directed by Bækkevold (who’s now based in Amsterdam), including a chilling one about Pontianaks and a secret society of vampires.
