An 18-year-old linked to a bloody knife attack at a Boon Lay supermarket earlier this week was charged in court today.
James Teck Jing You was charged with one count of voluntarily causing grievous hurt with a dangerous weapon, two days after slashing an unidentified 23-year-old man in the head at the Fairprice outlet. The victim received cuts to his face and a gash on his forehead, according to photos of the incident.
Emergency responders said they were alerted to the incident at 12:40pm and rushed the victim to the Ng Teng Fong General Hospital. Teck was arrested later the same day after police identified him through surveillance footage. He will return to court Oct. 23.
While the cause of the attack is unknown, eyewitnesses said that they heard “loud shouting” when the incident took place in one of the grocery aisles. Other photos and videos from the scene showed supermarket staff and bystanders attending to the man as he sat on the floor looking dazed with his clothes soaked in blood.
The supermarket was closed for several hours after the incident.
If found guilty, Teck could be jailed for life and caned.
