Early Tuesday morning, a suspected drug trafficker led the authorities on a wild car chase along Lentor Avenue that ended pretty violently when he tried to evade arrest by slamming into other cars after he was cornered.
We’re not surprised at all about where he was initially headed for — Yishun.
According to a joint statement by the police, CNB and Singapore Civil Defence Force, a 27-year-old Singaporean man was arrested in Lentor Avenue, and by Odin’s beard, he didn’t go down without a fight.
The suspect was said to have been driving a rented black car with a female passenger towards Yishun Avenue 2, when he realised that he was being followed, Lianhe Wanbao reports. He sped off, prompting CNB officers to give chase. They got assistance from the traffic police and the car rental firm, both of which sent cars to the scene.
Together, they managed to corner the suspect’s car on the left-most lane of Lentor Avenue with CNB officers at the rear, TP officers on his right, and the rental car firm’s vehicle in front of him.
Undeterred, the suspect surged into the back of the rental firm’s car, crashed into the TP car on the right and reversing right into the CNB vehicle at the rear. Several times.
The couple, however, remained trapped, and refused to exit the car. A CNB officer broke a car window and managed to arrest the suspect. His female companion then made a run for it towards a condominium nearby but was nabbed soon after.
The violent end to the chase injured a 39-year-old CNB officer, who was conveyed conscious to Khoo Teck Puat Hospital nearby, according to The New Paper. She was later discharged.
About 4.3 grams of meth was found in his vehicle, so that’s a victory for the authorities at least. Investigations are ongoing.
