Singapore is a fine city. Yeah, we’ve all heard that joke. But our authorities sure take cleanliness seriously, as evidenced by this latest photo to achieve viral fame: Someone was allegedly fined S$300 because he/she “did throw rubber band in a public place.”

The image, which has been circulating social media recently, shows the crime reportedly took place last Thursday at 12:44pm in Jurong East Central 1, where the perpetrator likely tossed the offending item on the road near the loading/unloading bay.

It may be ludicrous to think that one rubber band (or perhaps many) flicked on the ground by someone who didn’t give it much thought could cost that person $300, but hey, litter is litter. It’s all about how deliberate your action was, not the size of the trash.

Still, that didn’t stop netizens from coming in with ridiculous suggestions of potential offences.

Seems like the National Environmental Agency’s new neon pink and yellow Corrective Work Order vest, made intentionally ghastly, did not deter this particular litterbug.
