The first local meme-worthy event of 2018 might very well be today’s severe flash floods that hit the eastern parts of Singapore. Already the internet jokes are making a splash.
Last September, we discussed joke Facebook events that you can sarcastically click “attending” to, and the trend continues to ebb and flow into the course of this year. Case in point: this event page that invites everyone to go urban kayaking alongside stalled vehicles and stranded folks at the next flash flood.

Jokingly (or not?) created by sport and recreation event organizers Ministry of Adventure, you don’t even need a kayak to participate. But you’ll have to bring a change of clothes, of course, and the exact date of the event will depend on the next torrential rain.

In case you weren’t aware, someone actually did kayak down the flooded streets of Little India back in 2010, so the Facebook event’s not that far-fetched.

But then again, you may not even have to wait for a heavy downpour to enjoy some outdoor adventure — there’s always the semi-regular hiking expedition along MRT tracks during train breakdowns to look forward to.
