Singapore Parliament will take a break in April

Singapore Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong announced at the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM) in Sri Lanka that the Parliament will be taking its mid-term break in April next year so it can take stock of its work and work out a new legislative programme.

According to Channel NewsAsia, PM Lee thinks they might break after Budget in 2014 and reopen in May.

At the same time, the Prime Minister also responded to calls for an official poverty line for Singapore, which arose from a report by the Singapore Management University and Lien Foundation.

He was reported to have said that defining poverty in Singapore based on the standards raised by the public would be “as complicated as kueh lapis“.
