A 56-year-old bus driver was arrested today for allegedly running over and killing a pedestrian.

Singapore police said they were alerted at around 6:45am to the tragedy on Ang Mo Kio Avenue 3, where a 46-year-old woman died after becoming trapped under the bus’s rear wheel. The driver was later arrested for careless driving causing death.

The woman, who has not been identified, was pronounced dead by paramedics at the scene. The Singapore Civil Defence Force said they used hydraulic rescue equipment to free her from under the wheel.

A bus operator SBS Transit rep told Coconuts today that it was cooperating with the police and had reached out to the family of the deceased.

“We are deeply sorry that this has happened and are trying to get in touch with the next-of-kin to offer our condolences and assistance. We will do our best to help and support them during this difficult time. Meanwhile, we are assisting the Police in its investigations,” spokesperson Tammy Tan said.
