The Sembawang Hot Spring as you know it now will be completely revamped and developed into a community park by 2019. Headed by the National Parks Board (NParks), the project will start construction early next year to transform it into a one-hectare park that’s 10 times its current size, Channel NewsAsia noted.

As of now, our island’s only natural hot spring sits on the grounds of Sembawang Air Base, with daily opening hours from 7am to 7pm.

But don’t worry; the kampung vibes of the hot spring area will be preserved, said NParks, who revealed the plans for the area at a public exhibition on Saturday. Some of the new additions to expect include a cascading pool, sheltered seating areas, a cafe, and a floral walk, The Straits Times reported.

Check out NParks’ artist impressions below.

Inspired by its surroundings of greenery, the park’s walkway entrance will feature golden trumpet and oleander flowers, as well as fruit trees like chiku and rambutan, while shrubs and climbers will cocoon the cafe. Replacing the central pipes and taps, a cascading pool will be built, to help cool the water and allow visitors to dip their feet into it.

If you have any ideas you’d like to pitch, the public exhibition at the hot spring will be on display until Dec 3, and NParks is open to public feedback till Dec 10.
