UPDATE: ‘Dozing’ bus driver was simply having neck pains, according to investigations by SBS Transit.
Aside from sharp things sticking out of seats, dirty perverts getting themselves off, and WorldStarHipHop-level fights between passengers, one other thing you definitely don’t want to see on a bus ride is the bus driver falling asleep at the wheel.
Unfortunately, that last bit might have allegedly happened recently. In a video clip that’s currently being shared widely on Facebook, a user by the name of Darius Chan uploaded footage of an SBS driver seemingly nodding off while the bus was still moving. At a pretty decent speed too, judging from the pace of other vehicles alongside the bus and the very bumpy ride. Fortunately, the driver in subject proved to be conscious enough to slow down and stop when nearing a traffic junction.
If it is true that the driver had been pretty heavy-eyed while operating an actual bus with actual passengers, it should be pretty alarming to everyone. Not to mention the fact that the person witnessing the whole thing should have been shaking the bus driver awake instead of recording a video.
A lot of elements remain unclear for now (Was the bus driver really dozing off? How bad are the working hours for bus drivers? Which bus service was this? Where and when was this video captured?) but we’ve contacted SBS Transit for their response.
