Last week, the Immigration & Checkpoints Authority of Singapore revealed that a motorcyclist was caught at Woodlands Checkpoint on Apr 18 for attempting to smuggle three bundles of e-cigarette paraphernalia… stashed in a container of cooked rice. The incriminating evidence was discovered in the storage compartment of the Malaysia-registered motorcycle, and further checks unearthed more e-cigarette accessories like cartridges and cables in the individual’s sling bag.

The case was subsequently referred to the Health Sciences Authority for investigation. ICA declared that such methods of concealment were a “cause for concern” as similar techniques could be used by those with ill intent to “smuggle security items into Singapore,” and said it would keep up its efforts to conduct security checks.

That’s great to hear and all, but what we’re left wondering is, who eats plain ol’ rice? We’d be suspicious, too, if we saw someone packing a full container of white rice without the usual meats, veggies, or gravy, like any typical person living in Southeast Asia would.

So naturally, netizens came up with creative suggestions on how the smuggler could’ve made the rice container look more convincing. It’s all in jest, of course. Because smuggling prohibited items into the country is still frowned upon.
