UPDATE: Fearing the legal safety of all interested Super Saiyans, the organizers have changed the screaming venue.

Hot on the heels (literally) of the infamous Naruto run at VivoCity last month comes another informal gathering of otakus, weebs, and trolls — where people yell into the air like the main character of Dragon Ball Z in a collective manner at the Suntec Singapore Convention and Exhibition Centre.

Yes, this is a thing.

Sigh, context time. Dragon Ball Z is a Japanese manga and anime television series that many ‘90s kids grew up consuming. It follows the adventures of a martial artist Goku as he defends the world from many, many villains that range from monsters to aliens to androids.

In the series, the characters would power up during fights and transform into even stronger versions of themselves — Super Saiyans. Part of charging themselves up involved yelling very loudly for a prolonged period of time until they reached the powered up state (visible by the spiked up yellow hair). Goku screaming is such an iconic part of the series that it has its own Best-Of compilation.

Over the past couple of weeks, Dragon Ball Z fans across the United States have started bringing the ridiculous concept into real life. As you can see, it can get pretty alarming. Hilarious though.

The dudes who jokingly organized the Naruto run are at it again (they really could make a business out of this) by setting up a Facebook event page calling for all to turn Super Saiyan together at the Japanese anime, manga and cosplay event Chara Expo. It was initially set to be held at the Merlion Park, but the risk of getting arrested by cops for causing public alarm has prompted organizers to switch the venue to somewhere more… suitable.

Once again, the event already has hundreds of people indicating their interest and confirming their attendance (both out of irony and sincerity), but we’ll only know on the day itself if shit is really going down. But judging from the surprising turnout at the Naruto run, it won’t be unusual if people do come through for this one too.

EDIT: Article updated to reflect change of venue
