The police are searching for a 28-year-old man who on Saturday handed an unconscious 6-month-old baby to a nurse at the Singapore General Hospital and fled.

The mother of the baby, who is also the man’s girlfriend, has been arrested for suspected child abuse and drug-related offenses, police told Coconuts Singapore today, adding that they were alerted to the incident at about 1:40pm.

Police actually came very close to catching the man during a car chase along Jalan Bukit Merah before he abandoned the car at Lower Delta Road and fled on foot.

Suspected drug paraphernalia was found in the car, police said, adding that investigations are ongoing.

Police have so far not revealed information about the man’s physical appearance.

According to The Straits Times, the baby is currently at KK Women’s and Children’s Hospital.

Under the Children and Young Persons Act, those found guilty of ill treatment of a child under their care can be jailed and fined. If the case results in death, the person can be fined up to S$20,000 or jailed up to seven years, or both.
