You don’t have to look far for gorgeous photos of Singapore — just hop on Instagram, where futuristic drone snaps, aerial shots, and surreal images abound. But if you’re on the hunt for a new space to experiment with fresh perspectives of the city-state, perhaps the largest integrated development in the Marina Bay financial district will draw your attention.
Designed by Ingenhoven Architects, Marina One is the new jewel of Singapore, housing offices, residences, and community spaces in its 400,000sqm complex. The S$7 billion project, which took about four and a half years to complete, counts companies such as Facebook, Grab, and Prudential among its tenants.
One of two projects by M+S — a joint venture of Temasek Holdings and Malaysia’s sovereign wealth fund Khazanah Nasional — the development held an opening ceremony on Monday with Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong and Malaysian PM Najib Razak in attendance.
But towering steely exterior aside, Marina One is also home to the Green Heart — the CBD’s largest biodiversity garden — with more than 160,000 plants across over 350 species dotting the space amidst waterfalls. Strolling through the Asian paddy field terrace-inspired greenery is almost reminiscent of taking a walk through a rainforest.
Even if you’re not one of the lucky few to work (or live) there, you’re still welcome to swing by and check out the line-up of restaurants, cafes, retail spaces, supermarket, and food court. It’s easily accessible too, with direct links to four MRT lines, including Downtown and Marina Bay stations.
Behold the beauty below.
