Tan Hong Sheng was sentenced to over four years in jail and 12 strokes of the cane this morning for his role in a 2019 murder at Orchard Towers.
The 24-year-old man, the last of six to be charged in the brutal slaying of Satheesh Noel Gobidass, was sentenced in court today, a month after he pleaded guilty to assault last month. He confessed to being with Tan Sen Yang, 29, who used a knife in the attack on Gobidass and was the only in the group to be charged with murder. He’s currently awaiting trial.
Tan Hong Sheng, who was represented by lawyers Josephus Tan and Cory Wong, had previously been charged with rioting in two unrelated bar brawls prior to the July 2 incident at Orchard Towers. He was free on bail at the time.
Gobidass died in a dispute that allegedly began outside the Naughty Girl Club on the building’s second floor. Satheesh later died of his injuries after being stabbed in the head and neck.
Surveillance footage showed a group fighting at the building’s entrance. He was later found unresponsive.
Others convicted of assault for their involvement in his death have already been sentenced. They included 24-year-old Natalie Siow Yu Zhen, who was recently freed after six months in jail; Joel Tan Yun Sheng who got four weeks’ jail; Ang Da Yuan got eight months in jail and six strokes of the cane. Loo Boon Chong received five months’ jail, and Chan Jia Xing was given a conditional warning.
