NTU Confessions contributor gets righteously slammed for calling firefighting and policing ‘low class jobs’

In the latest internet incarnation of the ancient proverb “Talk shit, get hit”, an elitist student from Nanyang Technological University (NTU) got piledriven hard by a barrage of condemnation. Why? She took a giant dump on the noble professions of firefighters and policemen.

But it’s important to note that this should be taken with a pinch of salt. The NTU Confessions Facebook page is where anonymous NTU students can make disclosures and express their feelings on any topic, whether relevant or not to their school. The element of anonymity, however, means that these “confessions” can be easily faked. For all intents and purposes, this post could have been crafted to be intentionally provocative, but it’s actually pretty touching to see so many people coming together to defend the officers of the Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) and the Singapore Police Force (SPF).

On to this NTU student’s actual spiel on the Facebook page. Apparently, the woman’s supposed dilemma is that her boyfriend decided to start a career in the SCDF — a decision roundly criticized by the girl’s parents, who called it a “dirty hands job”. The girl goes on to agree, saying that she’s fine with a profession in the Singapore Armed Forces, but — in her words — “police or scdf is low class jobs (sic) Done by ‘some people’ only”. We’re pretty sure that the “some people” she’s referring to are folks from minority races, because come on, it is true that minorities form the bulk of the Home Team’s manpower.

Anyway, the NTU student goes on to be bratty AF, saying that she won’t be able to have a posh wedding and she’ll be ashamed and have to lie to her friends about her boyfriend’s job.

Every once in a while, Singaporeans put aside all their differences and unite for the purpose of a greater cause. And they did, as commenters pitched in to tell the haughty lady (and her parents) to shove it. As for the comparison between army boys and firefighters, well, just read an SCDF personnel’s gripping account of a day on duty.

Many folks also told her to break up with her boyfriend.

While others tried to educate her on the noble professions.
