A man who led a team of hapless security guards on a wild goose chase around the National Stadium football field in the middle of last week’s Brazil-Senegal game might have gotten a better response than the game itself.

A 20-second video clip making the rounds after being posted to the All Singapore Stuff Facebook page today shows the man juking a series of security guards to raucous cheers, none bigger than when one of the poor fellows face-plants during the pursuit.

“The pitch invader got the loudest cheer from a dismal crowd watching Brazil play. He probably showed more samba skills then the Brazilians themselves,” the caption reads.

The clip, which begins with the man already on the field and being chased by a guard, eventually involves more than a half-dozen security guards in pursuit.

No one ever really “catches” the man, who eventually — likely winded — simply slows down and raises both arms in triumph as security surrounds him.

Right before the clip ends, two guards appear to be putting the man’s hands behind his back as if to arrest him.

“This is really entertaining to watch. I watched twice,” said one Edwin Long in the comments.

“Even more entertaining than watching stars who fail to shine,” said Victor Gan, taking a bit of a dig at the action on display.

Another person noted the unusually small crowd for a football event that involved international players. “Brazil never played to such a small crowd before, another first for us,” said James J Keswick.
