Man plans to plead guilty to throwing cat down six stories and slamming it on the ground twice

Cat lovers and owners in Tampines reacted in horror and disgust back in May when a resident reported seeing a man killing a cat with wanton cruelty

According to the alert issued by the Cat Welfare Society, a man was seen slamming a cat onto the ground in the vicinity of Block 884 along Tampines Street 83. Then he tried burning it with a lighter.

It’s been several months since the incident, but the suspect is finally facing his day in court. Today, 25-year-old Fajar Ashraf Fajar Ali was charged for two counts of animal cruelty after he allegedly killed the cat, Channel NewsAsia reports. He is accused of throwing the grey cat down six stories from Block 884 at about 1.40 am on May 26, before slamming the cat’s body on the ground twice. He was arrested a few days after the incident on May 31.

In court, Fajar said that he would plead guilty to the two charges come Jan 9.

Should he be convicted under the Animals and Birds Act, he can be fined up to $15,000 and/or jailed for up to 18 months. If this was not the first time he was convicted for animal cruelty, he could face heavier penalties with a maximum fine of $30,000 and/or imprisonment of up to three years.
