It took a squad of police officers decked out in body armor to take down a lone machete-wielding man near Boon Lay Place Market and Food Village yesterday. Facebook user Atiqah Shah shared footage she captured depicting the man in the midst of escaping before eventually surrendering himself to the armed cops.
It’s unclear what took place in the lead up to the arrest (we’ve contacted the Singapore Police Force for details) but the suspect appeared to have caused a big enough ruckus on New Year’s Day to attract at least seven police officers to the scene. A riot shield had to be wielded while confronting the suspect, who was said to have been brandishing a parang (machete), according to Atiqah.
The incident comes just a week after another scene of mayhem that required cops to react aggressively. On Christmas Day last week, a chopper-wielding woman had to be tasered after she refused to lay down her weapon in a case of criminal intimidation at an HDB block in Serangoon.
