Typically, one would fork out a little over $20 at most for smartphone screen protectors, installation services included. One mobile phone shop in Lucky Plaza, however, seemed to be selling screen protectors made out of tempered vibranium, considering that it recently charged a domestic helper $145 for a piece.
According to a viral Facebook post by Denise Han on Feb. 18, her helper was bullied into forking out $145 when she dropped by EZ Advance Trading Enterprise Pte Ltd to purchase a screen protector. The invoice was written only after it was installed, and the staff was said to have intimidated the unwitting maid into handing over the money, stating that the incident was captured on CCTV. When Han confronted the store’s staff, they insisted that the price was correct as it was of “good quality” and came with a one-year warranty.
Welp, that “good quality” turned out to be pretty shitty — the tempered glass chipped within a day.
Since the spat went viral, EZ Advance Trading Enterprise has made a full refund to the helper, according to an update by Han. Speaking to The Straits Times, the shop’s manager said that he was willing to give the full refund to close the case and move on, but he still refused to admit that it was a ridiculous price to charge in the first place.
ST then said that a report was lodged in 2016 against the shop for trying to rip off another customer — a customer was forced to fork out $139 for a screen protector and installation services. Eventually, the price was lowered to $69 after the customer chose to forgo the one-year warranty. Other netizens also chimed in with their own stories about the errant retailer.
In other words, avoid EZ Advance Trading Enterprise at all costs.
