A man was shot outside the Clementi police station after charging a cop with a knife last night.
The police this morning said an officer shot an armed 49-year-old man outside Clementi Police Division after he had assaulted another man he did not know nearby. The alleged attacker is currently in stable condition at a hospital.
“As there was imminent threat to the officer, he then fired one shot at the man with his service revolver. The man was then detained by the officers,” the police wrote.
At around 8:40pm, the police said they were alerted to an incident of a man, 41, injured with a knife along Block 420A Clementi Avenue 1.
Police investigators found that the man and his assailant did not know each other, the police added. The names of both men were not disclosed.
The alleged attacker then took a taxi to the Clementi Police Division and stood outside holding a knife and shouted “incoherently.” Three officers were seen surrounding the man in white before he was shot in his left arm after charging at one of them. Eight officers then surrounded him after he fell to the ground.
The police said the man refused to drop the knife after being instructed by the officers. He was later sent to the hospital.
He has been arrested and charged with criminal intimidation and voluntarily causing hurt with a dangerous weapon.
The victim was conscious and sent to the hospital after suffering injuries on his right arm and wrist.
If found guilty of criminal intimidation, he can be jailed for up to two years and fined, plus another seven years for voluntarily causing hurt with a dangerous weapon.
