Even after some high-profile arrests of individuals possessing airsoft guns earlier this month, a huge haul of illegal replica weapons was attempted to be sneaked into the country.
An Immigration & Checkpoints Authority (ICA) officer uncovered 20 sets of dismantled airsoft guns, parts and assorted ammunition in a shipment of imported cargo last Tuesday at the Changi Airfreight Centre. Anomalies in the scanned image of the consignment raised his suspicions, according to the ICA, and the case has since been referred to the Singapore Police Force.
Images uploaded on the ICA Facebook page displayed legit-looking rifle replicas that seem to be battery-powered.

Singapore draws a hard line on the unauthorized possession and usage of firearms — including airsoft guns, which are categorized as controlled items under the Arms and Explosives Act. Earlier this month, a man was nabbed after he attempted to drive through Woodlands Checkpoint with airsoft guns, which led to the arrests of two other men with similar illegal weapons.
