Heads up, home buyers — new Bayshore district with 6,000 HDB flats along East Coast may be coming your way

Rejected once again by the previous round of bidding for BTO (Build-To-Order) flats? We totally feel you. But maybe all this could change in the upcoming years if the government decides to go ahead and create the new Bayshore district along East Coast (think majestic sea views).

The plan is to build 6,000 HDB flats and 6,500 units for private homes to house about 12,500 families in the area, which spreads out across 60 hectares bordered by Bayshore Road, Upper East Coast Road, East Coast Parkway and Bedok Camp.

If this comes to fruition, these HDB flats will be the first ones constructed along East Coast since the 1970s, when the Marine Parade flats were built. And they’ll be situated close to the Bayshore and Bedok South MRT stations on the still-in-construction Thomson-East Coast Line, expected to be completed by 2024.

In a Request for Proposal submitted last month, the Urban Redevelopment Authority (URA) called for urban design consultancy firms to develop a master plan for the precinct. This tender will be conducted in two phases, and the chosen firm will present its final proposal this December.

But sections of the area will be under construction to make way for the Thomson-East Coast Line for a good number of years, so implementation of this housing plan will not be in the near future, according to a URA spokesperson.
