Free MRT rides, anyone? Don’t worry, this one won’t require you to do anything ridiculous (like, ahem, wear some sort of uniform). Before the official launch of the new Downtown Line 3 stations on Oct 21, you’ll get a chance to preview all 16 of ’em at an open house preview on Oct 15 from 10am to 6pm.

And yes, everything is free.

Step on board a train and go station-hopping — but be prepared to spend quite a bit of time doing so if you want to explore the surrounding areas in the vicinity of the MRT stops, ’cause the Downtown Line 3 is the longest stretch of the line, stretching across 21km.

Stations open for business include Fort Canning, Bencoolen, Jalan Besar, Bendemeer, Geylang Bahru, Mattar, MacPherson, Ubi, Kaki Bukit, Bedok North, Bedok Reservoir, Tampines West, Tampines, Tampines East, Upper Changi and Expo.

There will also be games, activities and celeb performances on that day, as well as an exhibition at Expo station called 30 Years of MRT, collectible trinkets inspired by buses and trains for sale, and tours of the Civil Defence shelter facilities at Bedok Reservoir and Tampines West stations conducted by the Singapore Civil Defence Force.
