As part of the celebrations for 50 years of National Service, all National Servicemen past and present will get to enjoy free rides on buses and trains come June 30.

The only catch? You gotta wear your uniform. Physical training kits won’t cut it though.

According to a joint press release issued today, folks from the Singapore Armed Forces (SAF), Singapore Police Force (SPF) and the Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) are welcome to partake in free travel across all public transport — including the Nite Owl and NightRider services.

For verification purposes however, they’ll have to get a wee bit uncomfortable by donning their standard issued service uniforms. SAF national servicemen will be required to wear their No. 3s or No. 4s, while SPF and SCDF national servicemen will have to wear their duty uniforms. Hey, anything for free rides the whole day… right?

Props to SCDF officers willing to go the extra distance by wearing their firefighting outfit (but seriously, don’t do that — bunker gears are way too hot and heavy for walks and strolls).
