The chubby cat that was abandoned by its owners at a void deck of a Pasir Ris HDB block last September managed to find a forever home soon after its story went viral on Facebook. A happy ending after all!

But now, Fatty Fred needs help once more to stay with its newfound family, who are relocating to Australia.

Some context first. On September 14 last year, the cat was found at a void deck with its food, water, and sleeping mat left on the ground — it looked like it was thrown out by its owners. The images caught the attention of cat lovers, who arranged for a rescue and sent the sick cat for treatment at the vet.

Fatty Fred then found a new home with three other cats and two dogs for companions, but alas, the fosterer will have to relocate to Australia in April. Already burdened with the fees of bringing the other pets overseas, the man wants to take Fred with him as well, but the extra costs —S$3,500 — are just too high for him to handle alone.

As such, Fred’s rescuers have set up a crowdfunding campaign to help raise the money to relocate the formerly abandoned cat. As of yesterday, the donations have reached S$1,100, meaning there’s still another S$2,400 to go.
