The police have identified the deceased man who was found on the pavement near Block 165A along Teck Whye Crescent yesterday morning as 35-year-old Mohammad Roslan Zaini, a resident of the block.
Police have also arrested the 48-year-old suspect behind the killing, who turned out to be his flatmate at a two-room unit on the fourth storey of the block, The New Paper reported. The case has since been classified as murder.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the incident was believed to have erupted from a dispute between the suspect and the deceased, and the latter was stabbed in the chest.
Allegedly, the wounded Roslan had been chased down from the unit, leaving a trail of blood down the stairwell and on the pavement. He was pronounced dead at the scene at 4:55am yesterday.
As for the suspect, police established his identity at 10:15am before arresting him in a nearby housing estate. No weapon has been found as of writing.
Multiple residents of the block speaking to reporters mentioned that they actually heard a commotion in the wee hours of the morning, but thought nothing much of it considering that noisy disputes, partying and rackets were regular occurrences at the particular unit where both men stayed.
A neighbor who spoke to The Straits Times noted that the arrested suspect used to sleep at a staircase landing for two years before Roslan invited the man to stay in his flat out of pity around six months ago. Others described the suspect as polite, a man who would apologize for the noise, while the deceased was said to be a friendly person.
