Tesla’s affordably-priced Model 3 is now available for order in Singapore

Awww yiss, it looks like Elon Musk’s discussions with Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong may have borne some electrifying fruit.

Musk’s most important electric car yet — the Tesla Model 3 — is being unveiled right now as we speak at the company’s facility in Hawthorne, California. Here’s the good news: Singapore’s included in the list of countries that’ll be able to order.

It’s touted to be the most affordable car yet by the electric vehicle makers with a base model price of USD35,000 — a mass-market Tesla car potentially affordable to all those wanting to go both electric and super-sleek.

Of course, we don’t know how easy it’ll be to actually drive one of these bad boys in Singapore, especially after the long-suffering turmoil Joe Ng went through just to make his Tesla Model S road-legal. Pre-ordering is as easy as filling up a form and putting down a USD1,000 deposit, but going through the hoops of importing, vehicle inspection, fighting for rebates and other red tape nonsense might be far, far costlier. Not to mention the Land Transport Authority (LTA)’s immense inexperience when dealing with Tesla cars.

What exactly Musk and PM Lee discussed and what the LTA will implement in the near future is uncertain, but you can bet it’ll be a while before the vehicle of tomorrow comes today.
