Elderly Ferrari-driving lady admits to hitting man in Telok Ayer road rage incident

The Ferrari-driving lady allegedly behind the contemptuous obstruction of traffic along Orchard Road last year is back in the news again — but not for *that* particular case.

Two years prior to being accused of deliberately blocking traffic along the busy shopping belt, 72-year-old Shi Ka Yee was involved in a different case of road rage, in which she was brought to trial for allegedly assaulting another motorist.

Turns out, she did — and she thinks her walloping was justified, according to The Straits Times.

Shi has admitted in court yesterday that she slapped 39-year-old Raphael Chong Yen Ping along Telok Ayer Street on the afternoon of Feb 25, 2014, and all over some vulgar language.

According to her, she had been on her way to a pilates class that day when Chong’s BMW blocked her way. He didn’t move even after sounding the horn, and she didn’t feel confident about driving past him due to the width of her Ferrari.

She started taking pictures of the scene in case evidence was needed for her insurance, should her Ferrari end up with scratches.

Shi claimed that Chong then started abusing her with vulgar language — causing her to feel “very stunned, shocked and humiliated”.

“He was not a respectable gentleman,” she added. “My instinct was to give him a slap (and) I did.”

In an earlier testimony, Chong already noted that he could not recall using vulgar language, but claimed that the woman punched him through his open car window. Apparently, she was wearing rings, and the blow caused a cut on his forehead. An eyewitness testified earlier this month and gave an account that matched Chong’s side of the story.

The case will carry on, with Shi due back in court on Aug 14. Six other charges against her will be dealt with at a later date.

The wealthy lady is, of course, no stranger to appearing in court. Aside from facing trouble for allegedly causing a jam along Orchard Road, she is also being sued by her Astrid Hill neighbours for harassing them over a tree.

Is anyone surprised that Singapore’s the setting for Crazy Rich Asians?
