A recent Facebook post regarding the safety of a brand of frozen peeled pineapples originating from Thailand has been spreading like wildfire.
According to the post, these small frozen pineapples were said to be laced with cyclamic acid, a sweetening agent that is not permitted for use in frozen and chilled fruit in Singapore.

Cyclamic acid is banned in 45 countries and long-term consumption could result in kidney failure, liver disease, and even potentially affect male fertility and promote cancerous cell growth.
In a Facebook post dated May 28, the Singapore Food Agency (SFA) responded to these concerns, stating that the organization is “aware of a circulating message about Dragon King brand of frozen peeled pineapples from Thailand that have allegedly been found with cyclamic acid.”
The SFA also assured people in Singapore that “there is no import of the implicated brand of product into Singapore,” and added that they have “stepped up surveillance of peeled pineapples from Thailand” as a result of the public scrutiny building up around the issue.
All imported food products are subject to regular inspection and sampling by the SFA to ensure that they comply with food standards. Food that fails such inspections or tests are not allowed to be sold in the country.
